ITE’s 2nd Meeting w/ Guest Speaker Zaki Mustafa

Zaki MustafaITE’s second meeting is this Thursday, Oct 11 during U-hour (12-1 PM), in the Transpo Lab (17-2646). We will be hosting Zaki Mustafa as our guest speaker. As the newly elected President of ITE, he will be discussing how the Los Angeles Department of Transportation operates and also how to get ahead and succeed in life. Free lunch will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Zaki Mustafa, P.E., was recently elected President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers during the 2012 ITE Annual Meeting. Mustafa has been working for the City of Los Angeles, Department of Transportation for the last 28 years. As the Executive Officer for the Project Delivery Group he reports to the General Manager, is the department’s lead engineer, and manages a staff of 155 professionals.  LADOT’s budget for the 2013 fiscal year is $493 million. His office is responsible for delivery of streetscape improvements projects, pedestrian and school safety improvement projects, the Signal Synchronization program, project management of all “Measure R” transit capital projects, traffic impact studies, the implementation of the Bike Plan, and preparation of engineering plans for all of the traffic control devices.

Over the past 30 years Mustafa has been actively involved with the Institute of Transportation Engineers and served at all levels of ITE leadership: as a Student Chapter President, Section President, District President, International Board Representative, and as the International Vice President. Western District’s Student Endowment Fund was established under his leadership and he played a part in the establishment of eight new student chapters throughout the Western U.S.
