Senior Traffic Engineer
ITE’s general meeting is Thursday, January 23rd during U-hour (12-1PM), in the Transpo Lab (17-2646). We will be hosting Jonathan Hofert as our guest speaker. He will be discussing his path to becoming President of the Riverside San Bernardino section of ITE (RSBITE) Section and his current Transit related project he is currently working on (Expo2 LRT and Metro IRWL). Jonathan is an engineer with 7 years of experience in traffic and transportation engineering design, he started off by working as an Intern for the City of Corona in 2003, and then he worked for RBF Consulting and now he is working for Parsons Brinckerhoff as a senior engineer in the traffic engineering group. I joined ITE after graduating from Cal Poly Pomona, with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Transportation. I continued my education at Cal Poly Pomona by receiving a master’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Transportation. His passion for Cal Poly did not stop at two degrees, he continues is a part time lecturer at Cal Poly Pomona teaching such classes as Highway Lab and advising senior projects. He is familiar with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and various Southern California counties’ and cities’ design standards, guidelines, rules and regulations, which he acquired while working on transportation projects throughout the region. Among the many tasks he has performed are traffic design, transportation planning and traffic studies, transportation safety related research, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design, highway geometric design, and construction management services. Jonathan’s traffic and transportation detailed expertise includes traffic signal, traffic control, signing/striping, signal timing, signal/stop/lighting warrant analysis, and lighting design. In addition to his engineering expertise, Jonathan is proficient in using a variety of traffic and civil engineering software.
On Thursday, January 10th 2013, ITE Cal Poly Pomona held the 5th General Meeting of the year and featured Cal Poly Alumnus, Mr. Gianfranco Laurie, P.E. who spoke on behalf of the KOA Corporation. (Original post can be found here)
On Thursday, October 25th 2012, ITE Cal Poly Pomona held the 3rd General Meeting of the year. The guest speaker was Mr. Neil Nilchian, P.E. who detailed Project Management issues in Transportation Engineering.
Mr. Nilchian stressed the importance of balance within a project and the consideration for a diversity of needs. According to him, project success is a product of originality, timeliness, and client-service. Mr. Nilchian concluded his presentation with valuable words of wisdom and well wishes to his audience of aspiring professional engineers.
ITE’s third general meeting is this Thursday, Oct 25 during U-hour 12-1 PM, in the Transportation Lab (17-2646). We will be hosting Neil Nilchian, PE as our guest speaker. He will be discussing the Development of the First Largest Group of 10-Existing Road Improvements in 2010-2011. Mr. Nilchian asks that you please bring written questions to the meeting as his presentation is very interactive! Free lunch will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis. ITE Cal Poly Pomona’s 2nd
General Meeting featured guest speaker Mr. Zaki Mustafa, P.E. from the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT).
Mr. Mustafa (Cal Poly Alumnus, ITE 2013 International President Elect) shared
his presentation on the “Keys For Success” to an audience of students and faculty. Mr. Mustafa’s stressed the importance of growing strong communication and technical skills, but also urged his audience to pursue volunteer opportunities and other involvements within Transportation Engineering before graduation. Mr. Mustafa concluded his presentation by offering the latest news and happenings within LADOT.
ITE’s second meeting is this Thursday, Oct 11 during U-hour (12-1 PM), in the Transpo Lab (17-2646). We will be hosting Zaki Mustafa as our guest speaker. As the newly elected President of ITE, he will be discussing how the Los Angeles Department of Transportation operates and also how to get ahead and succeed in life. ITE Cal Poly Pomona’s 1st General Meeting featured guest speaker Ms. Alyssa Reynolds, P.E. from the City of Henderson, NV.
Ms. Reynolds shared her wide range of experiences in engineering, highlighting multiple issues to be considered at the start of civil improvement projects. As the past President of ITE’s Western District, she also stressed the benefits of becoming involved with ITE and the Transportation Engineering profession.
